For me, beginning to journal was a way of clearing my mind
of all the unnecessary chatter, the anxieties, the worries, the stresses, the
things that cloud your mind because they're big and loud and they draw your
attention. Whereas sometimes, if we're seeking a better way of doing things a calmer more tempered way of life, then finding the methods that will take us there aren't always easy to locate amidst all the overwhelm. Putting it down in black and white allows you to see exactly what is going on. And you may well surprise yourself at what comes out of your subconscious, the thoughts that really are ticking away in the back of your brain desperate to be heard. Your genuine, real desires, the things that are holding you back, your strengths, your fears, your limiting beliefs.
We can also lose our voice. We take on the voice of the roles we play in life, parent, sibling, business owner, colleague, carer, partner, teacher and we forget what we sounded like. We forget what used to deeply matter to us, our dreams and our aspirations. Journalling is a wonderful way to reconnect with that part of you.
Journalling is a fantastic tool for managing your mental
health, and if you are receiving treatment, it can be a wonderful additional
tool. Regular journalling has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, boost your immune system and help you to understand where your thought are coming from, your ego, heart or gut?
There are many different ways to journal, and many different reasons, gratitude, intention setting, reflection, etc. When it becomes as much of a habit as cleaning your teeth then the magic really starts to work. You start to see yourself again, process discomfort and find a path that feels joyful and authentic, creating a deep sense of inner peace.
You will always find seasonally inspired journalling prompts in my monthly newsletter or you could delve deeper with an online course or in-person workshop or retreat.
